Humble Pie

Apple, blueberry or cherry? That will be the big question this weekend because Saturday (January 23rd) is National Pie Day.

The American Pie Council has a web page listing the events, contests and recipes in honor of the occasion. If you are the mood to bake Saturday morning, my favorite apple pie recipe (called "Trick or Pie" on Halloween) is easy and delicious. Or stop by the bakery department of the grocery store and take your pick.

Then when your family says "What's the occasion?", you can tell them all about it.

I fell in love with Cherry Pie when I lived in North America. I could eat it day and night quite happily.

Of course here it is summer and I have blackberries and strawberries growing. Perhaps not enough homegrown strawberries for a pie but enough to eat straight off the bushes! I wash the blackberries and add sugar; they are delicious just fresh with a little cream or icecream.

Oh yes, I live near "Cherry Country" so it defines Summertime to me! Oh and blackberries! I need bushes to make a dessert to go with my fine china.
