I give you my latest find...sun block that is modern, cute AND offers great protection! I was so happy to find Physician's Formula "Healthy Wear Powder Foundation" which boasts an SPF of 50!
This is the kind of thing I can keep in my purse and "dust" on myself, my parents or my nieces/nephews if we get in a pinch and are caught out in the sun. The perfect spot at the 4th of July parade can stay perfect when the only obstacle is that someone forgot a hat. "Here, put on a little of this powder." Problem solved.
And I really like that because it is in powder form, anyone can benefit from it. No one is willing to smear sunblock cream on their face when they have make-up on. But when it is a powder compact - a quick puff-puff on the face and we are good to go.
And talk about cute! A cool orange case, full mirror and hot pink applicator makes it very 2011. So before you head out of town this holiday weekend, swing by the drugstore and pick up a little portable sun protection.

Lipstick Mirrors
I am a Revlon girl - Chinaglaze Red, Snowsilver Rose. I even got to know a church member better by asking her if she was wearing Persian Melon - I kid you not!A long time ago, I bought a 2-pack of adhesive lipstick mirrors for the end of your lipstick case at a tiny drug store in northern Michigan. Pure genius! I have been waiting to see them distributed nationally
1) so that I could buy more and
2) so that I could tell you about them.
But I have given up. It has been at least eight years and they are no where to be found so I am making my own!
Find some 2 cm mirror discs at the craft store (usually in a bag of 10), get a packet of Glue Dots and pull out all of your lipsticks! It works best if you place an adhesive dot on the back of the mirror and on the lipstick case. The glue dots adhere to each other and voila! You'll be gorgeous, darling.
Note: Do not do what I did the first time. I bought the 2-pack of mirrors, met my friends for lunch, pulled my "find" out of the bag and proceeded to stick the mirror on the base (over the label) of the lipstick tube. You guessed it, it was the wrong end and I couldn't see myself in the mirror and apply lipstick at the same time! Duh! The mirror goes on the CAP, which you hold and look at while you put on your lipstick.

Chapstick
There is a gorgeous full-page Chapstick advertisement in the magazines right now. A row of every type of Chapstick available by color/flavor/feature. Have you seen it? It really made an impression on me and made me want to revisit this classic brand. So off to the drugstore I went. But you know how I like things to be beautiful and interesting. Well, Chapstick has the interesting part (I like the new flavors, Green Tea Mint and Vanilla Mint, plus some have a little color and shimmer, which never hurts!) but the packaging just doesn't look like something I want to pull out of my purse.
My solution? Super-cute packing tape. The craft stores are starting to stock interesting packing tape for dressing up your mail, but why stop there?
Simply use an X-acto knife (be careful) to slit Chapstick's plastic wrapping, peel it off, and recover the tube with a piece of packing tape. If the packing tape overlaps and seals the cap on, just use the X-acto knife to slit the seam between the cap and tube. Now the little extra edge of overlap tape can be peeled right off the cap. A perfect fit!
And in terms of a bargain, I found a 3-pack of classic Chapstick for less than $2.
This Winter, let your lips be beautiful and interesting.
