This is a tiny pop-up paper scene of a Japanese celebration called Hinamatsuri (or Girl's Day). A 2.75 x 2.75 card opens into this charming scene, where even the star-filled trees expand to the side as the guests settle into place. I found this at The Morikami Museum and have been looking for the right place to display it for some time now. But today things fell into place. I have it on my cream plate rack next to a glass cup filled with 3 pink roses. Wishing you good health, great happiness and good fortune.
I love the lines and the elements in balance in this picture. I took it of a zen-like garden just outside of the Japanese tea house at the Morikami museum.
I also love how a simple rain chain can dominate a picture. Have you ever seen one of these? It is a waterfall of sorts, directing rain water from the roof down to a reservoir below. Enjoy the peace.
Isn't this beautiful!? A visit to Morikami Museum & Japanese Gardens in Delray Beach, FL is not complete without a meal at the Cornell Cafe (showcased as one of the best museum restaurants in America by the Food Network).
Lunch is in an open-air cafe on the terrace overlooking the gardens. I simply loved every minute of my visit.
What did I buy at the museum shop? A clear acrylic flower "frog" to support stems in a vase - a modern design for an old-fashioned item.
On your next "spring break," try to visit Morikami...
