Whenever I travel, I look over my retail wish-list to see if I can visit a rare or specialty store that I've had my eye on.
Visiting Chicago meant that I could visit the new Home department within H&M. Right now, the H&M locations that have a home department are in: New York City, Boston, Washington D.C., Chicago, New Orleans and Denver. With 25,000 people moving to Seattle each year, I hope we are candidates for this beautiful and reasonable home collection.
The area dedicated to Home was beautiful. They were loaded with inventory and it was artfully arranged. H&M is definitely all-in with this category and I hope it takes off. To me, the overall mood was between Banana Republic and Calvin Klein. At the time, the main colors were Powder Pink, Black, Gary and natural wood. The products ranged from beautiful candles through kitchen statement pieces and on to bed linens and bath accessories. The quality was high and the feel was modern.
I want you to look over their pillow cover collection. I was in heaven when I saw a wall of zip-on pillow covers in a vast array of colors and fabrics. Look online at H&M Home pillows.
I can see shopping for distinctive home items from H&M for years to come. New glassware, ever changing pillows etc. I'm in!

Vintage Postcard Pillow
I'm working on a project that I can use to liven up the living room this Winter, once the holiday decorations are all put away. January can be so quiet and gray - I thought that this scene would add an air of mystery and elegance. And when finished it should be about 6 x 9 inches - the perfect size to put on my lap and rest my book on when I'm reading.
I found this lovely vintage postcard at an antique store and I am going to print it on a special fabric sheet (8.5 x 11) by June Tailor and sew it into a small accent pillow for a chair.
If I turns out as well as I think it will, I'll add it to my Etsy store in late January. What do you think?

12 Days of Valentine's Day: Day 8
On this 8th day of Valentine's Day, consider adding a few pretty touches to your bedroom. I love pretty sheets, blankets and quilts and enjoy putting together combinations that look inviting.
This week I used iron-on rick rack trim (in pink) to embellish a plain white pillow case. It couldn't be easier - first buy some iron-on trim-by-the-yard (1.5 yards), iron the pillowcase to warm up the fabric, lay the rick rack on the pillowcase and iron (pressing and lifting - no steam) until it adheres.
I just love how this looks. Seeing my valentine-inspired bed makes me want to buy more pink rick rack. I could easily make matching handtowels for the adjoining bath.
Day 8: Do something to dress up your bed. Flip the comforter, add some pillows, buy pink pillow cases. Climb into a cozy bed and have sweet dreams of your valentine.
