12 Days of Valentines Day: Day 4: Add Some Whimsy

12 Days of Valentine’s Day: Day 4: Add Some Whimsy to Your Home. I hung framed and hung these 2 holiday cards recently. I love the contrast of soft winter white with shades of red. The painting of cherries was done by my great-grandmother and I was able to hang it with Elmer's mounting putty. Safe for the walls and this precious antique. But I have been grappling with what would finish this grouping and I have been patiently auditioning different things in my mind. Then it came to me...my tin hearts would be darling.

You may not have wire hearts ready to hang on the wall with mounting putty, but you probably have something cute to add a little something around your family room. Be on the lookout for some way to add some whimsy to your life this week. Push a straw into the dirt of a houseplant and attach red glitter heart. Buy red heart paper place mats and put them on your table for breakfast. Arrange the magnets on your refrigerator into a heart. You get the idea.

Today’s the day look for a sweet (and inexpensive!) touch of whimsy. Happy Day 4.

City Series: Dallas: Ted Cantrell's Art at Ginger Fox Gallery

I stopped in my tracks when I saw Ted Cantrell's heart piece in the window of the Ginger Fox Gallery in the Bishop Arts district of Dallas.  His skillful use of pencils and rulers brings back memories of my grade school crushes. I love when people highlight the beauty of everyday objects.  Happy Valentine's Day, Ted!

12 Days of Valentine's Day: Day 10

Make this Valentine's Day super-cute with homemade cupcake toppers!

Simply place a toothpick between 2 adhesive foam hearts and stick them back-to-back. Voila! They are ready to be placed as you wish.

Cupcake toppers are all the rage in baking, but they can be expensive and hard-to-find. This method couldn't be easier and can take your box mix muffins from basic to beautiful!

Day 10: Make your own cupcake or muffin toppers from inexpensive foam stickers.

12 Days of Valentine's Day: Day 7

Do you wear your heart on your sleeve? I do!

I made this heart pin with some vintage clip art, scissors, an adhesive pin back and a liquid medium that dries to look "like glass."

When this clear liquid medium dries, it makes any paper image sturdy enough to wear! I think it is the coolest thing ever.

I make pins in batches (like for Valentine's Day) and in the middle of the process, my brain is always whirling with ideas of what to do with this glass-like medium next (perhaps it's the fumes?)
Are you inspired to craft?

Day 7: Think about crafting/knitting something to wear that is inspired by Valentine's Day.

Love your jewelry

Today is the American Heart Association's Go Red Day, a movement that encourages women to wear the color red to promote heart health.

So today, in addition to my red sweater, I will be wearing this necklace. A beauty I designed with an antiqued chain, wooden beads and a gorgeous "I ski in the Alps"-style heart.

Feel like making a heart necklace of crystals? Check out my simple instructions here.

Day 3: Dig through your jewelry box and wear one of your heart-inspired treasures.

Heart-shaped Waffles

It is Day 5 of the Twelve Days of Valentine's Day! Time to break out the heart-shaped waffles and pancakes. We were given a heart-shaped waffle maker as an engagement present (17 years ago!) and it still works like a dream. My favorite waffle mix is Classique Fare Belgian Waffle Mix - you can find it in most specialty grocery stores and I think you'll agree, it is worth it. This batter also makes delicious heart-shaped pancakes - yum! Get out some pretty plates and dig in. I just know you'll love it.
