Lavender Farms

The lavender fields are in bloom!

I know that Summer weekends are busy busy busy, but if you are looking for an afternoon of girl fun, may I suggest a trip to a lavender farm?

July is the month for lavender festivals and events in the Midwest. I took this photo last year at Lavender Hill Farm in northern Michigan. What a day! I came home with some lovely culinary lavender to use in my shortbread. Yum.

Lavender is so beautiful. I love the fresh smell and I'm very curious about tasting it in food. I've read about it used in icecream too but shortbread is one of my favourites.
I mentioned you in my blog yesterday :)

Thank you, Mme! Lavender is quite strong, you just need a hint of it to make a shortbread or seasoning more complex. It definitely is a bit floral - best saved for special occassions. The best way I have had it is in ice cream, crepes, lemonade and shortbread.

I have never used Lavender to cook with. I love a faint smell of lavender! The field is so beautiful!

Aha, thanks for the tip Anne - if my lavender bush actually produces any flowers this year, I'll add some to my lemonade!
