Northwest Flower & Garden Show: Harvesting Beauty by HomeGrown Organics

Harvesting Beauty by HomeGrown Organics
This lovely greenhouse and reflective pool was built in a show garden called Harvesting Beauty by HomeGrown Organics. I absolutely loved how they showcased this small tranquil space and made it feel approachable and achievable. It was charming. Take a look inside.
Isn't it wonderful? Though I would definitely want a chair to sit and fuss with the plants.

There were 2 large logs suspended from the ceiling that had orchids growing on them. It looked beautiful and felt quite roomy inside.
Here I am judging the show gardens with my esteemed colleague, author and photographer, Mark Turner.
Oh to be able to have my own Citrus Trees in pots. Reason enough to have a green house, don't you think? While Seattle's climate is mild, my house is in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains and we get much colder weather and sharper winds. I can't keep citrus alive outdoors...sigh.

GardenComm Friends at Northwest Flower & Garden Festival

It is such a joy to be able to participate in the Northwest Flower & Garden Festival again this year. I met my dear friends Mary-Kate Mackey (burgandy) and Marinne Binetti (cream) in the press room at this show in 2016

Erica Brown Grivas (coral) and I got to know each other through GardenComm at one of our Regional Connect Meetings just a few years ago and we have talked a mile a minute ever since! She is a phenomenal National Director for our GardenComm Region VI, which covers a vast portion of the Western United States and has been so great to work with.

We all missed being able to see our garden industry friends & colleagues during the pandemic and this photo was taken after the 2023 Press Tour - the start of an incredible week in Seattle.
While I was organizing my photographs, I kept noticing this photograph in my garden show pics and thinking that our group shot (above) matched it. You decide, did we dress for...Spring Vibes Only?

Growing Roses in Containers: Delight in the Pacific Northwest

My friend and mentor, Mary-Kate Mackey wrote a wonderful piece for Hartley Botanic Greenhouses about the success I am having growing roses in containers. I have lived east of Seattle almost 5 years and I have 10 roses flourishing in pots.

My former zone (southeastern Michigan 6a) wouldn't support roses in containers, unless I had had one of Hartley Botanic's beautiful greenhouses, so I was thrilled when I had the chance to try it here. In this photo you can see (front to back), State of Grace, Royal Amethyst, a hydrangea in the ground, Tournament of Roses and Passionate Kisses. They make a lovely border to my suburban yard and I think it is wonderful.

Please read this article about my garden and maybe you'll be inspired to give container roses a try!
